If you go round Monks Brook in Newport, formally known as Vestas country, there's quite a development of modern commercial buildings, they were built a while back, flash open-plan offices as is the norm of today. This is not the only thing they have in common though. The majority of them are empty or only partly used. Why do I mention this?

Well it seems Cowes is destined to have the same. Hold on to your shopping trolley people Aldi is coming. In the forum of this site Chorlton's post about the Island being invaded is about to come true again. In the hope that they can soak up some of the unemployed, this planning application will no doubt go through without a hitch. Along with Aldi, there will be new commercial buildings similar to those at Monks Brook. Are these going to also lay dormant once built?
Checkout any of the estate agents who deal with commercial property and see how many industrial units are up for sale. Why are we having more built when there are so many laying empty?

Isn't it strange how the Council pounce on the small developer and yet the bigger ones get away with murder. The house in Denmark Road Cowes that was nearly forced to be demolished because it contravened planning, is not my cup of tea, but compared to the monstrocities that have been allowed to go up in that area, it beggers belief why they should hassle the poor guy.

We apparently have a new medical director here on the Island, a Dr Mark Pugh. A doctor no less, hurrah! The majority of the other board members backgrounds are business based. This is no bad thing in theory, managing the budget is important. But of course they don't do they!

There's a job up for grabs titled 'Head of Ambulance Services' If you read between the lines of the job description, it's basically a fleet management job. For 37.5 hours a week you will be paid between £53,256 - £65,657 pa. There's also a 'Staff Nurse' position up for grabs in the Intensive Care Unit, same hours although the rota system means working nights, pay £20,710 to £26,839 pa.

When are we going to pay Nurses and Doctors what they deserve?
