Council Scam Alert

The Council have announced a computer scam warning. Apparently an international firm called Online PC Care have been contacting people and telling them that there are problem's with their computer and they will fix them remotely.

If you were to fall for this, first up they will charge you for the service, secondly they will have control of your computer. They will be able to see everything that you hold on your machine, if you do online banking they will be able to record your login details and clear your account out.

Most problems with computers can be attributed to lack of maintenance. In the downloads section is a DIY book that will show you how to keep your computer in tip top condition for free.

The hardware that makes up a computer system is not unfortunately free, but the software to run on the hardware is, as is the knowledge to use it. Paying for software and software related maintenance is an avoidable expense once you have the know how. Wight Portal gives away that know how.
